Portland, ME - November 13, 2017

Portland Boxing Club’s Russell “The Haitian Sensation” Lamour Jr., of Old Orchard Beach, ME lost an eight-round split decision to John Thompson of Newark, NJ in a fight for the vacant IBA North American Middleweight Championship. This was the main event of Portland Boxing Club’s All-Star Boxing with a packed house at the Portland Expo. Thompson inflicted a deep gash above Lamour’s eye and broke his orbital bone in the first round. Despite adverse conditions, Lamour pushed through and made a fight of it in every round, but the sharp, accurate Thompson showed great boxing skills throughout with an impressive performance winning the bout and taking home the title. Lamour, who was previously the IBA North American Middleweight Champion in 2015, now has a record of 15-3-0 (7 KO) and Thompson’s record improves to 18-3-0.

In the co-feature, Portland Boxing Club’s super middleweight Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk, of South Portland, defeated Siri Mikael Bosse, of Charleston, WV, with a fourth-round knockout from a left hook to the body and a right to the head on the way down after wearing down the sharp Bosse with a steady body attack in a competitive matchup scheduled for six-rounds. Quirk’s record improves to 8-0-0 (6 KO).

Welterweight Brandon “The Cannon” Berry, of West Forks, ME, earned a majority draw in a six-round rematch with Eric Palmer of Uniontown, PA. Berry returned to the ring after an 18-month recovery from his third shoulder surgery, getting off to a slow start in the first three rounds and seemed to pick up the pace in the next three close rounds that could have gone either way, resulting in the majority draw decision.

In what was the most dramatic fight of the night, former Maine native Brandon Montella, of Quincy, MA, had to get off the floor twice in the first round then turned the tables and came back to score knock-out 2:17 into the third round over Austin Marcum, of Charleston, WV, in the bout scheduled for six rounds.

Cruiserweight Tommy Karpency, of Youngstown, OH, defeated Rubin Williams, of Detroit, MI, with a knock out 1:00 into the first-round of the bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Cruiserweight Christiano Pedro, of Lewiston, ME, knocked out John Hantzoupolas, of Carver, MA, 0:39 into the first-round of the bout scheduled for eight rounds.

The show started with bouts featuring two of Portland Boxing Club’s amateur stars. Portland Boxing Club’s amateur welterweight Josniel “TG” Castro, of Portland, ME, won a unanimous decision over Tim Lawrence, of Red Bank, NJ. Castro is ranked fourth nationally and is competing in the USA Boxing Elite National Championships in Salt Lake City, UT in December. Sponsor Opportunity
Portland Boxing Club is in need of a new ring canvas at the gym. We are looking for a business or individual to sponsor this canvas at an approximate cost of $1,500 to $2,000. The sponsor can put their logo on the canvas which will be seen by the gym members, boot camp participants, drop-in class participants and visitors from other gyms. In addition, the ring (including your logo) is often seen in documentaries, news stories and other videos about the gym. A ring canvas lasts approximately 10 years, therefore the annualized cost of this sponsor opportunity is very affordable. The Portland Boxing Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

If you are interested in this sponsor opportunity, contact Bob Russo at pbcboxing@maine.rr.com. Please forward this information to your contacts who might be interested in this unique opportunity.

Portland Boxing Club’s undefeated middleweight Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk (6-0, 4 KO) is back in action in Skowhegan on Saturday July 29. Quirk will be fighting on the card for the “Pro-Am Boxing” show presented by Team Berry Boxing at the Skowhegan Community Center.

“It's very important to have fighters like Jason on the show. I have known him a long time and have fought on a lot of the same events as an amateur and a pro. I have always been a fan of his style in the ring. Expect an impressive performance in Skowhegan from The Fighting Fireman!”

Quirk was a standout amateur boxer and a 2014 New England Golden Gloves Champion. This is Quirk’s second fight in as many months after taking a year-and-a-half off from boxing to complete his degree in Paramedicine at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). Portland Boxing Club Pros Score Two Knock Outs and One Controversial No Contest at NEF 29
Lewiston – June 18, 2017

Three professional boxing matches opened the mixed boxing and MMA show at New England Fights 29 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, ME on Saturday June 17.

The first bout featured Portland Boxing Club’s super middleweight Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk of Scarborough facing Borngod Washington of Queens, NY. Washington failed to make the agreed fight weight so Quirk gave him a 5-pound advantage, but this did not help Washington’s outcome. Quirk dropped Washington with a vicious uppercut at the end of the first round, sending him wobbling back to the corner. Quirk wasted no time dropping Washington in the second round with a flurry of punches before the referee stopped the fight 22 seconds into the round declaring Quirk the winner by TKO.

In the second bout, Portland Boxing Club’s super welterweight Casey, “Buzzsaw” Kramlich of Raymond faced Bryan Goldsby of Macon, GA. Kramlich controlled the ring movement and pace of the first and second round against the ackward Goldsby who lost a point for excessive holding. In the third round, Kramlich landed a hard uppercut that put Goldsby on the canvas where he was counted out by the referee earning Kramlich the win by TKO.

In the main event of the boxing portion of the show, Portland Boxing Club’s middleweight Russell “The Haitian Sensation” Lamour Jr. of Portland faced MMA veteran Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington of Brewer. Lamour used the first round to learn Boyington’s awkward style but came out determined in the second round and quickly took control. Lamour landed repeated body shots that had Boyington reeling until an accidental clash of heads sent Boyington to the canvas. Both Lamour and Boyington were cut from the head butt, but Boyington was unwilling to continue and the fight was stopped by the ringside physician. It was too early in the bout to go to the scorecards so the fight was ruled a no-contest with no winner declared.

Portland Boxing Club’s professional boxers will be featured next on July 29 at a Pro-Am show at the Skowhegan Recreation Center.

PBC Results at Fight Night for Charity
Andover, MA – April 11, 2017

Portland Boxing Club’s Danny Pang and Lindsay (Kyajohnian) Francois competed at the Haverhill Inner-City Boxing Club’s Fight Night for Charity on April 7 at the Double Tree Hotel in Andover, MA.

Danny Pang, a novice class lightweight (132 lbs) from Portland, won a 4-1 decision over Omar Rivera from Brunswick. After a close first round, Pang clearly won the second and third rounds giving Rivera a standing eight count in each.

Lindsay (Kyajohnian) Francois, an open class light welterweight (141 lbs) from Gorham, lost a hard-fought 3-2 split decision to southpaw Miesha Tuitt of Springfield, MA. Tuitt had an aggressive start to the first round before the lights accidently went out in the room forcing the fighters into the neutral corners for two minutes. After the lighting was restored, Francois dominated the remainder of the first round making it a close round. The second round had both boxers exchanged power punches in a back-and-forth battle with Francois receiving a questionable 8-count. Francois had an active third-round keeping the pressure on Tuitt the entire time; however, it was not enough to sway the judges losing a razor-close decision.
